For the Love of Furry Friends

Calling all animal lovers to support our furry friends awaiting a forever home . . . by making toys and bedding to donate to two area shelters. We hear the need is great right now, and everyone can get involved! We're collecting fabric and finished toys and bedding, if you want to sew at home at your convenience or just recycle a few old towels, t-shirts, or fleece pieces. Or, you can show up at an in-person "maker" event.  There'll be something to do for every age in the assembly of our sweet creations.

Who benefits?

Positive Charge! PDX is pleased to partner with our friends at Cat Adoption Team and Street Dog Hero for this furry friends project! Both organizations are doing great work!

MAKE PET TOYS & BEDDING AT HOME . . . for the love of furry friends

We welcome you to create pet toys and bedding at home, at your convenience. We offer below links to some easy patterns for crocheting, sewing, or assembling a no-sew toy. There also are tons of patterns online for making cat and dog beds. (Knitters can follow the crochet patterns.) Have fun!

Once you've finished your creation, please drop it off at the April 7 event at either location or at one of our Two Can Tuesday business drop-off sites. Know your efforts are appreciated!

Positive Charge! PDX is grateful to the Southwest Community Center

for choosing us for their PP&R Space Use Partnership,

made possible through the generosity of Portland voters who approved

the five-year Parks Local Option Levy (Parks Levy) in 2020.  We're also grateful to Windermere Realty Trust - MLK for their generosity in allowing us to host this community event in their conference room.

FAQs

Kitty Love

Do I need to bring anything with me to the April 7 event?

We'll have all the supplies you need to help make these sweet creations! If you want to donate something, feel free to bring dog or cat food with you, and we'll get the donations to the appropriate shelter.

What type of yarn should I use to make the cat toys at home?

Try to use an acrylic or polyester yarn because it is washable.  HOWEVER, if you have lots of superwash wool, that is great, too. As long as the yarn can be washed or get wet without felting or shrinking, you're good!

Should I add "tails" and more to my cat toys?

As fun as that might seem, please . . . no loose yarn strands and no ribbon should be hanging from any of the cat toys.

Can I bring my finished toys to the event?

Absolutely! If you make some pet toys and/or beds at home, you can drop them off at any of the places noted above by March 24, OR bring them to the April 7 event with you  . . . and stay to join in the fun to make more!
