Time & Location

May 14, 2022, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Sunflower Farm in Garden Home, 6001 SW Garden Home Rd, Portland, OR 97219, USA

About the event

What's a better way to spend a spring Saturday morning than by getting your hands dirty for a good cause!?

We're so looking forward to this event, in support of the work of Focus on Youth at their headquarters, Sunflower Farms in Garden Home. This brainchild of the amazing Donna Lee Holmes offers disadvantaged and homeless youth a respite from their troubles and a place to cultivate resiliency and build life skills—all while growing fresh produce to give away to those who are food insecure.

What We'll Be Doing

If you garden, even a little, you'll know there's always work to be done! In May, Donna Lee expects we'll be needed to spread compost and remove invasives, but you never know what project might take priority.  Please note that you'll be welcome to stay as long as you like to finish a chore or to keep working. :)

Who Can Participate

Any COVID-vaccinated individual, ages 10+ (Children must be accompanied by an adult.)

  • No previous gardening experience needed.
  • Wearing a face mask is optional; we will be working outdoors.

What to Bring

  • All volunteers must print out, complete, and bring this Focus on Youth/Sunflower Farms Waiver Form when you come to volunteer.
  • Also bring proof of your COVID-19 vaccination (a physical card or a photo).
  • Plan to wear "work clothes," sturdy work shoes, and gardening gloves.
  • If you have them, please bring loppers, a shovel, and/or wheelbarrow.
  • This will be a rain-or-shine event, so dress for the weather. (Rain/mud boots?)

Location Parking

This one-acre parcel is tucked into a residential neighborhood and directly off Garden Home Road—so parking is minimal. You can park along Garden Home, SW 62nd, or another neighboring street.

We look forward to seeing you for this outdoor classic PC! PDX event. Please note that you'll be asked to accept these Terms and Condtions of Positive Charge! PDX when you sign up to attend. Please review them now.
