About the event
Positive Charge! PDX's Compassion Through Literature project is thrilled to partner with the international Little Free Library organization to put Portland on the map as the 13th city in the world to host Read in Color diverse book-sharing boxes.
As the PC! PDX CTL webpage highlights, the mission of this ongoing project is to use diverse books as a way to build understanding, empathy, and inclusion for a more compassionate, equitable world. Thanks to the generosity of Little Free Library, PC! PDX is able to expand from having 15 diverse book-sharing boxes to having 26 in the Portland Metro area—from Gresham to Newberg! The stewards of the new 11 CTL LFLs will host their own ribbon cutting and launch, but this "grand launch" event is intended to bring together all the CTL stewards with the community in collective, family-friendly celebration. Kids are welcomed and encouraged to attend!
To keep everyone as COVID safe as possible, the ribbon-cutting and program will take place on Leikam Brewing's covered porch and heated patio. Plus, attendance is capped for adequate distancing, so RSVP ASAP.
During the event, you'll have the privilege of hearing from three amazing speakers: author, educator, and literacy activist Valarie Pearce; Sister Shiso Panda of the Portland Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence; and Stephen Green, the COO of A Kids Company About. After the ribbon cutting of the new CTL LFL at the entrance to Leikam Brewing, everyone will receive a free book and a sweet treat. You're welcome and encouraged to stay for food and beverages. Note: Leikam Brewing requires proof of COVID vaccination for those over the age of 12 to eat/drink indoors. Plan to bring your vaccine card if you'd like to move indoors after the ceremony.
We hope you'll join us for this "big deal" event as we strive to bring awareness to the power of taking action to make the world a better place for ALL!
NOTE: A quick remember that if you are bringing minors, please print, fill in and bring this Waiver with you when you come to the event.
