Urban Gleaners First
Saturday Bakery Delivery
Providing Fresh Baked Goods to Those Who are Hungry
A Much-Needed Service
Since 2017, Positive Charge! PDX volunteers have picked up donated baked goods from Safeway that would otherwise be discarded and delivered them to organizations around the community. We began with the Thirteen Salmon Family Center and the Ronald McDonald House. Today, we donate to Urban Gleaners for distribution to low income neighborhoods, schools and food pantries. It's one more way we can help address the hunger crisis in our community.
About Urban Gleaners
Urban Gleaners redistributes 60,000 lbs. of food each month from restaurants, grocery stores, and bakeries to feed 4,000 people each week in school pantries, at summer farmers' markets and through mobile pantries in low-income communities.
We Want You!
Participation in this fast and fulfilling act of kindness is very simple. You will fill your car with baked goods that will be packed and ready for you at Safeway and drive them to Urban Gleaners, where grateful staff will help unload them. It's a well-oiled volunteer opportunity and takes about an hour in total.
If you would like to add a very rewarding sixty minutes of service to your Saturday morning, we are currently looking for delivery volunteers for 2023 for these dates:

July 1
Oct. 7
