1:00pm: Decorate & Assemble Sack Lunches for the Homeless

Calling Artists of All Ages with Big Hearts! We'll be meeting in person (woo hoo!)—outside and with masks on—to decorate lunch bags and write words of encouragement on them. Then we'll stuff them, readying them for delivery to Blanchet House for distribution to our friends living in the streets.
1:00pm: Decorate & Assemble Sack Lunches for the Homeless

When does the Project start?

Jun 13, 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
Tualatin Community Park, Main Shelter, 8515 SW Tualatin Rd, Tualatin, OR 97062, USA

About the Project

Positive Charge! PDX is now delivering "Sweets to the Streets" every Wednesday through a partnership with Safeway on Barbur and the Blanchet House. What we've learned in that process is that, between their scheduled hot meal services, Blanchet House staff hand out to the homeless simple bagged lunches that people like you and me donate.

Although anyone can make these sack lunches, there's a detailed "how to" list of what to include. Plus, you need to arrange ahead of schedule when you're bringing them and how many. To AMPLIFY KINDNESS (our motto), Positive Charge! PDX decided to organize an event for us all to pitch in together and make a bunch of lunches to deliver to Blanchet House.  We've done all the upfront work of what, when, and where. We just need YOU!

On Sun., June 13, at the Main Shelter (south side) of beautiful Tualatin Community Park, we'll supply the lunch bags and have materials on hand for decorating the bags with messages of caring, kindness, and encouragement. Feel free to bring your own decorating supplies, but, please, no paint or glitter. NOTE: This is a great family-friendly opportunity. Kids are welcome but need to pre-register along with a responsible adult.

Once you're finished decorating bags, you'll be filling your bags with the required nonperishable items including:

  • 2 snacks such as chips, granola bars, and cookies (Snacks must be wrapped and cannot be homemade.)
  • 1 nonperishable fruit cup (e.g., apple sauce, mixed fruit, etc.)

Optional to Bring/Donate:

  • If you would like to bring and donate snacks or fruit cups to fill the bags, please do. :)
  • We also would greatly appreciate receiving gift cards to Costco, Safeway, or Fred Meyer to help defray the cost  of purchasing sandwich supplies. Those gift cards can be mailed ahead of time to Positive Charge! PDX at 6312 SW Capitol Hwy., #127, Portland, OR 97239--or brought with you to the June 13 event. Please be sure to include a note of who is sending us the gift card for this project (and your address and email address), so we can be sure to thank you and provide you with a receipt you can use for tax purposes.

Step 2 Overview

FYI, this June 13 event is Step 1 of a two-step process. A small group of us will be making 135 fresh sandwiches to add to the lunch bags and delivering them on Saturday, July 3. If we have more than 135 decorated bags and snacks, we'll arrange another sandwich-making event and delivery to Blanchet House.

COVID-19 Considerations

COVID restrictions at Tualatin Community Park allows only 30 people in the Main Shelter at one time, which is why we are offering two "sittings" on June 13:  SESSION A from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm and SESSION B from 1:00 to 2:30 pm. We apologize that we'll have to be strict about only allowing each person to attend one sitting, so as to accommodate as many volunteers as possible. We hope you understand!  This registration form is for SESSION B from 1:00 pm to 2:30pm.

Also, erring on the side of abundant caution, although we'll be sure to have everyone not in the same family sitting at Covid-safe distances, we are also requiring everyone to wear a face mask at the event.

Click here for our IMPORTANT WAIVER.  You will be asked if you have reviewed and accept its terms when you register.

Parking Details

The parking lot closest to the Main Shelter may be full when you arrive. Instead of turning left into the closest parking lot, if you go straight, you will find another large lot not far from the shelter.

THANK YOU, in advance, for joining us for this good deed—as we fill the need in between hot meal services for our homeless neighbors.

P.S. If you'd like to do even more to serve Portland's homeless, check out the many Blanchet House volunteer opportunities. They're a great organization!
